16th Century Florentine Bossolo from Abbey Of Sant’Antimo
A very rare and interesting Italian Bossolo (a chalice that was used as a ballot-box by the ‘Priori’, the members of the government of the Commune); from Abbey Of Sant’Antimo, dated MDXLII (1542), depicting 3 different Florentine coats of arms. Inscription around the base reads “SENA VETUS VIRGINIS”, a reference to the city of Siena (found on 16th century maps), which is 50km from the Abbey.
Measures 7.5” tall x 4” diameter.
